Tennis Tip of the Month by MCTC Coach Ted Kim

With the Wimbledon approaching, it’s a
chance for us all to soak in some great tennis and even
apply some of what watched to our games.  When you
watch TV, try not to watch the big picture.  If you
just watch the big picture you miss out on amazing things
the professional tennis players do.  Honing in on a
detail can provide you with a valuable model that you could
incorporate into your game (be careful when copying the pros
however, it’s easy to misinterpret what you are seeing, it’s
a good idea to double check with your tennis coach.)

For example, try to watch just a player’s feet.  See
how he or she recovers after hitting a
shot.  Does the player pause?  What’s the player’s
first step like after recovering?  How’s their body
positioned for each shot?  Try to watch the players not
just for entertainment but also as a learning experience.
Sometimes just by watching tennis pros on TV you find
yourself hitting better shots the next day, almost as if you
had soaked up some of their technique.
